My approach to treating patients
The overwhelming majority of spinal afflictions are responsive to nonoperative and rehabilitative techniques. This success, however, depends upon a knowledgeable physician and informed patient to coordinate rehabilitation.
When conservative measures fail to provide satisfactory results for the patient, spine surgery may be necessary. For many patients, spine surgery has had a bad reputation as a result of poor results for family or friends. However, current research has allowed spine surgeons to better understand the abnormal spine and tailor surgical procedures correctly to patients suffering from spinal afflictions. Also, newer techniques and instrumentation have created minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and non-fusion procedures that allow for less postoperative pain, quicker postoperative recovery, shorter hospital stays, and less financial burden on the health care system as well as the patient.
Having completed my spine surgery fellowship in 2007 under the instruction of both orthopaedic and neurosurgeons, I have become proficient in both classic open and newer MIS techniques of spine surgery. As a native of Alabama, I am excited to be able to bring these advancements to the Montgomery area and share the current trends in both nonoperative and operative spine care with you.
