My approach to treating patients

Patient care includes the assessment of the patient's problem through history and physical examination. X-rays are performed if necessary. The patient's problem is explained through the use of models (e.g. knee or shoulder) and by reviewing all studies such as X-rays and MRI with the patient. When the patient has felt they have gained understanding of the cause and nature of their problem, treatment options are discussed. Conservative treatment is always discussed first. This may include medication, physical therapy or the use of alternative medicine practitioners, whichever is best suited for the patient and their problem. Ultimately the treament decision is made by the patient after all options are discussed. Surgical treamtent is considered after the patient has failed to respond to conservative measures.
