My approach to treating patients

Dr. Donnelly is a native of San Francisco, California. After obtaining his bachelors degree in biology from Santa Clara University, he received his medical doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri. He then completed a surgical internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco.

Dr. Donnelly is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with added subspecialty board certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the California Orthopaedic Association.

As a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Donnelly’s practice is focused on sports medicine, joint replacement surgery, and orthopaedic trauma. He has special interest and expertise in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee. His research experience includes work in pain control after ACL reconstruction surgery, the treatment of hip replacement dislocations, and microvascular surgery for limb replantation. He continuously strives to offer his patients the most current treatment options, including minimally invasive and tissue sparing surgery.

Dr. Donnelly holds staff privileges at ValleyCare Medical Center in Pleasanton and San Ramon Regional Medical Center. He is the team physician for Livermore High School, and a director of the ValleyCare sports medicine program. When not practicing medicine he enjoys time with his wife and four young children.
