Achievements
After graduating on the Dean's Honor Roll from the University of Colorado, Dr. Townsend attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also completed his surgical and orthopaedic training at the University of Pennsylvania before receiving further specialty training in problems of the hand and upper extremity in New York City at Roosevelt Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Townsend has edited and authored numerous professional articles.
Community activities
I have been practicing in Wilmington since 1990. I am Co-chief of Hand Surgery at DuPont Children's Hospital. As an elected fellow of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, I teach residents and medical students in all area hospitals.
As a native of Wilmington and an active member of the community, I am on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation and am a member of the Nature Conservancy. I am the team physician for Wilmington Friends football and hand surgeon to the Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball team.
