Pediatric Orthopedic and Scoliosis Center

Approach to treating patients

Welcome to the web site of Dr. Michael Maguire and Dr. Sean Early. We created this site to familiarize you with our orthopedic practice, our dedicated staff, and the services we provide.

Our group has been in practice together since 2004 when we joined to offer comprehensive and state of the art care for pediatric and young adult patients on the central coast. Our training at large, tertiary referral childrens hospitals has given us the experience to bring advanced professional care to the tri-county area. In the past, patients had no choice but to drive hundreds of miles to receive the same care they now have close to home.

We hope that this web site simplifies your office visit with us. Understanding the options for the treatment of your diagnosis is very important to us. These options could be as simple as observation where your condition is monitored over time. In many cases, rehabilitation with physical or occupational therapy is of utmost importance in returning to normal function and sports. We work closely with many therapists in the area to reach our shared goals. If surgery is necessary, we want you to understand the entire process from the initial explanation to the final postoperative visit. Included in this website is a library so that you can educate yourself on your specific diagnosis and the appropriate treatment.

Many times we are asked to see patients who have an undiagnosed condition. Often, these patients have symptoms that are unusual or difficult to identify. In these cases, additional studies may be needed such as an MRI, CT scans, blood tests, or neurologic or rhumatologic evaluations. We ask that you be willing to work together with us to find a diagnosis and offer appropriate treatment. This may necessitate several visits with us to review the exam and workup.

As traumatologists (trained in the treatment of fractures and soft tissue injuries), we are asked on a daily basis to care for injuries to patients of all ages. Our primary focus involves trauma to pediatric or young adult patients, but we care for all types of traumatic injuries. One day, we had a one year old and a 100 year old in the office at the same time with different injuries. One of the best compliments is to have a parent or grandparent of one of our patients ask that we care for their injury. Just know that we want you to be comfortable with your decision to have one of us care for your injury. Our ultimate goal is to have you return to your previous level of sport or activity.
