My approach to treating patients
For frequently asked questions, please go to the end of the PATIENT INFORMATION section under "forms from your physician". Information on many problems can be found in this section also.
Dr Bailie trained at some of the most prestigious Orthopedic and Sports Medicine institutions in the world, including his Fellowship at Baylor Sports Medicine Institute. He is asked to speak and teach at Orthopedic training courses and major Universities throughout the country and internationally. He has been asked to host Orthopedic Surgeons from other countries and the US in order to teach them the latest arthroscopic and reconstructive techniques. In addition, he has served as a visiting clinical professor at major teaching hospitals in the US and overseas. He has helped to develop several novel shoulder replacement devices and holds a US and European patents.
"I believe that all patients should be treated individually. Each problem will be thoroughly evaluated and you will be given the most state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Care available. This includes access to some very novel procedures which may not yet be readily available. I never let insurance coverage interfere with my recommendations. It is critical to allow patients to make their own decisions with regard to treatment, and my job is to give them the information to do that appropriately"
As he is involved with clinical research, you may be offered a newer state-of-the-art treatment that may not readily available elsewhere. This includes cultured cartilage cell transplant, limited incision surgery, the use of biological patches for repair of the rotator cuff, biological resurfacing of the shoulder joint for arthritis and minimally invasive shoulder replacement (Resurfacing). Some of these procedures are being done only by a few select surgeons at this time. TOCA has been designated the Arizona Center of Cartilage Repair.
We encourage you to ask questions and be sure that all of them are answered appropriately by myself or staff. It is important for you to understand your problem and all of the treatment options-even those that I may not utilize. The more actively involved and informed you are, the better you will ba bale to understand the problem and participate in your care.
We also recommend that you get a second opinion if you are uncomfortable with any recommendation made. Ask for the surgeon's CV (resume) to be sure they are Board Certified by the ABOS and to find out their true qualifications and experience with your specific problem. You want a surgeon who is skillful, personable and actively participates in various Orthopedic Societies and clinical research as these are typically the ones who are doing state-of-the-art work. Treatments should be based on science and not just "opinion". Fellowship trained surgeons are typically more advanced in their respective field. Be sure to check with your State Board of Medical Examiners as well.
If there are any concerns or questions regarding your care or our office, please always feel free to ask.
'My staff and I consider it an honor to treat our patients and your right to the best care available."
